WHAT WE DO

For over 80 years, we’ve helped Scotland’s museums grow

Scottish Museums Federation is a membership body for anyone interested in the Scottish museums and galleries sector. Founded in 1937, we support our membership with professional development, networking and informative discussion.

We have members throughout Scotland from local authorities, universities, national and independent museums and galleries. Membership is open to all and we welcome curators, collections managers, registrars, museum assistants, volunteers, students, education staff and senior managers. Joining is great way to share knowledge and information, as well as meet new people to add to your professional network.

We aim to:

  • Provide networking opportunities in a friendly atmosphere

  • Be a dynamic forum for information and discussion of the issues that affect museums and galleries

  • Encourage creativity, enjoyment and personal development in the museum and gallery sector

WHO WE ARE

As a committee we regularly meet to discuss and plan new events and resources for our members. Our President sits on Museums Galleries Scotland’s Stakeholders Group, helping to advise on strategic activity for the sector in Scotland.
