As an independent body, Scottish Museums Federation represents a wide variety of views from across the museums sector. By joining, you’ll be helping us to influence, shape and inform the experience of everyone that contributes to the sector.

Scottish Museums Federation is a national forum for knowledge sharing and gaining new insights into different areas of museum expertise. We connect you with colleagues and sector experts from around Scotland.

Events and conferences

We hold regular meetings, workshops and socials around Scotland, giving members a strategic view of the museum sector. Our annual all-day conference explores current issues, trends and debates to help you develop the skills and contacts you need to progress in your career.

Sector newsletter

Our quarterly newsletter, available only to members, keeps you up-to-date with SMF events and what's going on in the museums sector. Being part of our mailing list also means that we can update you with any news, events and opportunities as and when they arise.

How to Join/Renew

Membership is open to individuals who work, study or volunteer in the sector.

If you want to become a paid member or renew your paid membership you can sign up by filling out the form below and pay by BACS.

MEMBERSHIP fees

Membership is £12 for 12 months.

It is free for students, interns and volunteers, i.e. for those who do not receive any income from working in the sector (donations are welcome).

Non-paid memberships are asked to fill out the form below.
